CAREGIVER SUPPORT

CAREGIVER SUPPORT OPTIONS

We have once again had to suspend our in-person caregiver support groups as the COVID-19 numbers continue to rise on Vancouver Island. Although this is the right to do, we cancel caregiver support meetings reluctantly. We know how important these peer support groups can be. What we can offer at this time is:

Phone Support, Private Counselling, Zoom-facilitated Support Groups, Information about Resources

Please call our office for information: 250-871-5940

Caregiver support groups offer participants the opportunity to spend time with others who have similar caregiving circumstances. Each person has an opportunity to talk about what is happening for them, hear the stories of others, and experience mutual support. Relevant information is also offered. Our groups completely focus on the needs of participants and we tailor processes and content accordingly. Our support groups are all committed to a confidential, supportive environment.

Family Caregivers of BC: This is a wonderful resource offering information, phone support, webinars, and a quarterly newsletter.        www.familycaregiversbc.ca        info@familycaregiversofbc.ca     Caregiver Support Line: 1-877-520-3267

Alzheimer Society of BC: The Alzheimer Society of BC is your best source of easy to understand information about dementia. The name is a bit misleading since the Society offers information about different kinds of dementia and is not limited to Alzheimer's disease specifically. They offer webinars, resources information, and a dementia helpline: 1-800-936-6033

Island Health offers a comprehensive site full of relevant information. They have a number of short videos that speak to issues of particular concern for caregivers. Some, but not all, of the titles are: You are not alone, Communication, Hallucinations or Delusions, Verbal/physical outbursts, Wandering, Nutrition.
